Let Your Gentleness be Evident to All (Philippians 4)

Song Notes

This is one of the first Bible songs I’ve ever written/recorded. The first inkling of the melody came up maybe 10-15 years ago, but being the great procrastinator I was, I didn’t get around to recording it, which is just as well because the technology for recording is much better now, and I know more about how to use it…although there’s still a lot of learning to go!

There’s not much more to say, except that as I was reading this verse, it’s beauty and gentleness struck me…as did the melody, which came out of nowhere (or more likely was just sent down to me, and I scribbled it down). This is the verse that describes my ideal of a true follower of Christ: someone who is gentle, calm, patient, peaceful.

Bible Verse

(Philippians 4:5-7)

5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Lyrics

Let your gentleness be evident to all
The Lord is near, the Lord is near
Let your gentleness be evident to all
The Lord is near, the Lord is near

And don’t be anxious about anything,
But in everything, by prayer and petition
With thanksgiving, present your requests to God
Present your requests to God

[Musical interlude]

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding
Will guard your hearts and minds
And the peace of  God, which transcends all understanding
Will guard your hearts and minds in Jesus Christ
