Old Testament Lullaby

About

Children are a great privilege and responsibility, and guiding them successfully into adulthood is nearly impossible for most parents. Not unless they have some help. The Bible reminds parents to remind their children of God, His Word, and His Law, and what better way to do that then to sing it to them in the form of lullabies, so they will have His word in their ears as they go to sleep?

Lyrics

Go to sleep my baby,
may you dream beautiful dreams
When you wake, I’m waiting
to share with you lovely things

Like the Bible stories
That were told to me
When I was a baby
Now to you I sing

Don’t forget my teachings
Hold to your father’s commands
In your heart for keeping
‘Round your neck so you may stand

When you wake they’ll speak to you
When you walk they’ll guide
When you sleep, watch over you
Always through the night

Fix these words of mine
In your heart and mind
Symbols on your hands
On your forehead bind

Go to sleep my baby,
may you dream beautiful dreams
When you wake, I’m waiting
to share with you lovely things

Like God’s words and stories
That were told to me
When I was a baby
Now it’s your turn to be listening

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

Proverbs 6:20-22

20 My son, keep your father’s command
    and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
21 Bind them always on your heart;
    fasten them around your neck.
22 When you walk, they will guide you;
    when you sleep, they will watch over you;
    when you awake, they will speak to you.

Deuteronomy 11:18

18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
