Trust in the Lord (Proverbs 3)

Listen Now

Proverbs 3 I’ve always thought of as one of those verses you teach to children at an early age, it’s one of the fundamentals of the faith, a lesson that we need to sink in as deeply as possible. It covers faith and trust, warns against pride and self-sufficiency “do not be wise in your own eyes” and the importance of “shun[ning] evil” in order to be healthy.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And lean not on your own understanding
In all your ways acknowledge him
And he will make your paths straight

Be not wise in your own eyes
Fear the Lord and shun all evil
This will bring health to your body
And nourishment to your soul

Proverbs 3:5-8

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight.

Do not be wise in your own eyes;
    fear the Lord and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body
    and nourishment to your bones.
